We are happy to announce teachers joining us for 2009 include the fabulous people below but do watch this space for updates.
SAMANTHA RIGGS is the Founder, Artistic Director, Choreographer and Lead Dancer for both Boom Boom Bollywood and The Sexy Scallywags Dance Circus in Tempe, Arizona, and is a performer with Jamila Lotus Renaissance bellydance troupe and Fyrae fire arts troupe. She was the assistant director as well as a core dancer, teacher, musician and choreographer for Domba Tribal Fusion Dance Troupe (winners of the 2006 Zaghareet “Best Troupe” award) from 1996 until their dissolution in October of 2006. Samantha has traveled the world teaching Bollywood Style Dance, Bhangra, Tribal Style Bellydance, Tribal Fusion, Fire Arts and “Pirate” Bellydance. She has sold out classes at TribalFest every year since 2005. Her innovative “Minnat Kare” choreography won Boom Boom Bollywood first place in the Aashiyana All-Indus Dance Competition in 2007.
A couple of the workshops Sam has planned
Fosse-lized! (Long skirts will just get in your way, so please wear form-fitting pants or shorts).
Let us tip our stylish bowler hats to Bob Fosse, jazz dance choreographer extraordinaire! Samantha has brought the stylized, cynical sexuality of Fosse to Bellydance and “Fosse-lized” some fusion combos for you to learn. These combos are dark, satirical and full of attitude and emotive body language. Besides his distinctive dance style (which included the use of inward knees, rounded shoulders and body isolations), Fosse also utilized the idea of subtext (unspoken thoughts and motives – the content underneath the dialogue) and gave his dancers something to think about during their numbers. Samantha will facilitate the incorporation of subtext into dance to help develop better acting technique on stage, bringing an awareness of pushing an intent just beneath the surface to create more intensity. Fosse believed that The time to sing is when your emotional level is too high to just speak anymore, and the time to dance is when your emotions are just too strong to only sing about how you feel. Amen.

‘Pirate bellydance’ (props required)
Pirate Bellydance is the culmination of Samantha’s experience with tribal fusion, stage combat, Bollywood and Bhangra, African fusion, comedy theatre and tall ship sailing… plus a little bit of madness… or brilliance (it’s remarkable how often those two traits coincide). Imagine the dynamic action of shipboard sword fights, the physicality of Bhangra and African dance, and the tongue-in-cheek humor of drunken Bollywood or Pirate movie comedy scenes and you may begin to scratch the surface of the spirit of Pirate Bellydance. This workshop will cover the basics of stage combat for dancers, including footwork, balance, swordplay and hand-to-hand. The emphasis will be on drunken brawling. Learn to look like you just smacked your dance partner in the face with a beer mug! Make it appear to the audience that you just dragged her/him across the floor by her/his hair! Learn how to do simple sword work that looks really flashy! Crotch kicks and nipple tweaks are included. Please bring a straight sword of some kind (rapier, fencing foil, epee, longsword, etc. – dance scimitars will not work) or a dance cane or wooden dowel (it should be something you can wield one-handed so claymores are right out unless you are SUPER strong). Also bring a plastic water bottle for hand-to-hand props work and any knee, ankle, wrist, elbow, hand or foot support/pads you might need for lunging and holding a sword for a couple of hours (leather gloves can be helpful). Also please bring a sense of humour.

BEATRICE FLOWERS; I am a Musician, Singer, Belly Dancer and Alternative Model.
I began taking music and dance lessons at three years old, trained in Ballet for nine years and studied Costume and Choreography at college.
I persued a career in music but always kept dance closely by my side
In 2005 I decided it was time to learn a new art form and began taking belly dance classes. I became hooked!
I love all styles of Belly Dance but
my greatest passion is for American Tribal Style.
When I first saw it being performed I was drawn in, I knew instantly that it was something I wanted to be part of. I love the community spirit that comes with Belly Dance, especially Tribal.
I currently teach 'introduction to belly dance' workshops and run a Belly Dance club night called Shangri-la Lounge in Nottingham
which features Belly Dance, Cabaret, Walkabout Acts and Music.
When I am not dancing around in shiny costumes, I front an Electronica band called Tribal Infinity.
We have been nominated for a number of awards and in 2007 recieved an award for best female fronted band at the Glasswerk new music awards. Our debut ep CHAOS CHILD was released in October on our own label Unit24 Records.
It is available from Unit24.org

Dawns workshops;
Get your Bend on
it's strength and flexibility training for Cyber Fusion and other demanding dance forms! It might be nice for a hour slot, as we'll be focusing on exercises and stretching to improve flexibility for those who want to push their bodies a bit more than normal. OPEN Level
Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick.... BOOOM!!!
Dawn will take you through a breakdown of this tightly controlled style of street dance. Ticking (or strobing, as it's also sometimes called) is the controlled execution of a series of small muscular movements, breaking down a larger shape/line/circle etc with many stops. The overall effect is that the body part appears to "tick" like the second hand on a clock, or as if seen in strobing light. This style and drills we'll cover can be incredibly useful for all dance styles as it's one step on from your "standard" isolation drills. OPEN Level.

ANGELA NOBLE

Angela is a qualified ATS instructor, having gained her certification with Carolena Nericcio in the Fat Chance Belly Dance format. She has been teaching for 5 years. Studying RAD ballet from the age of 5 until at age 16 she decided to explore other styles and so started a journey through many other forms of dance. While working as part of a training theatre company she gained a Sports Council, Dance Leader qualification as well as training in Laban techniques, allowing her to deliver movement and relaxation sessions to the actors. Finally everything came together; the music, the attitude, the costume, the history, the community, in the fusion that is Tribal Style Belly Dance.
While still attending Egyptian dance classes she saw Tribal for the first time and instantly fell in love. In these early days it was difficult to find teachers and workshops but she travelled as far as family and finance would allow to pursue her passion. She has now made Tribal Belly Dance her main focus setting up Tribe Zuza as a business offering tuition, performance, holidays and costuming.
